Greetings from Paraguay

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

We are a Chapina family that calls Paraguay home these days.

Leaving Guatemala is one of the most difficult things I have done. I grew up with my parents and my siblings, so when I decided to start my family I wanted my children to grow up with the huge family we had nearby.

I left Guatemala in 2015 because of my husband's work. When he told me about the enormous opportunity that he have, I remember that a huge mixture of emotions invaded me since despite being happy for the growth that he would have the idea of stop seeing my parents and siblings made me feel nostalgic, after all when you have 7 siblings, you get used to the noise and parties. Another point that made this whole situation difficult for me was that the place that awaited me was on the other side of the continent, however, I was also excited to know everything Paraguay would present to me.

My family and I during a trip to Argentina.

I arrived in Paraguay in January 2016 with my husband and three children and since then this is the country we call home. As always the first months were to adapt to how different the Paraguayan culture of Guatemala was, in addition to helping my children in their process of adaptation in the new school. I remember that something that cost me a lot was that here the parties start at almost 10 at night and end there by 2 in the morning, so when my fifteen-year-old son asked me for permission to return at that time it was a little shocking to me.

Over the years and thanks to technology I have adapted to my life here and now that soon a new destination awaits me I feel much more prepared for the challenge that awaits me.
